

Do I Qualify?
You must meet all of the following requirements to be a candidate for bariatric surgery. Meeting all of these criteria does not guarantee that you are a candidate. There may be other patient specific issues that affect candidacy.
You must be committed to playing an active role in your care. There are daily required vitamin supplements. You will have to permanently modify your lifestyle. Surgery is only the first step.
You must not be addicted to drugs or alcohol.
You must be at least 18 years old.
You must be psychiatrically stable and able to understand the risks, benefits, options and realistic expectations of surgery.
You must be a reasonable operative risk. This will be determined after a thorough evaluation.
You must have failed reasonable attempts at weight loss.
You must have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40 or a BMI of 35 -40 with an obesity related health problem. A body mass index calculator is below for your use.
